Discussions on GPO Forum '2' platform this evening took an interesting twist when the administrator in an attempt to help members on the platform shed off some stress after the hustle and bustle under the unpredictable Chinese weather, posed the unsuspecting and harmless question ''How do you say goodbye in your local dialect?
The rather intriguing question solicited both rib breaking responses as well as educated and well informed ones as well.
In responding to the question,a member on the platform who claimed to be an indigene of the Volta Region in a rather confident manner decided to say how the 'voltarians' would say goodbye. His response, as if was infused with an infectious vaccine, rather prompted another member who happens to be a ''voltatrian'' to come out and and refute the claims made by the first respondent which was in sharp contrast to the earlier claims. This sent the platform agog with laughter.
A member with a Wechat( a micro blogging app) ID ''Golden Boy'' further shed more lights on the issue. He said ''If I am saying bye to someone as a way of parting,I will say ''medzo lo'',or ''medzo hee''.He further stressed that if the bye is only for a short duration as in ''see you soon'',contextually bye bye becomes ''miado go'' or ''miagado go''.He however, cautioned that if the bye bye is as in ''nanti yie''(Akan) bye bye becomes ''zornyuie'' or hede nyuie'' or ''natsor afor nyuie''.He further observed that in the Ewe language, bye bye has contextual meaning .
The rather amusing discussions came to an abrupt end when other members just couldn't say goodbye in their own language.Go to the comments section below and tell us how you say goodbye in your local dialect.
